Most New Yorkers don't live in Manhattan, they just work there. All you've been seeing on TV is alot of hot, sweaty, tired people who want to go home.

I grew up in Queens, and it's nothing like Manhattan at all.

If you think NY is dirty now, you should have seen it in the 70's and 80's. I used to spend a 4-day weekend in the city every other week when I was in high school in the late 80's, and it was a hell of a lot worse than it is now. Giuliani really cleaned the city up to a meaningful degree.

I was in Manhattan today. made it out of there before the power outtage crisis. saw some ugly man w/ butt hair hanging out of his shorts riding a bike...i got scared and told my cousin to drive faster to get away from him.

I might have pictures of random people crossing the street in front of our car...but no pictures of "butt hair" man. yuck!!!

Oh yea..chinatown is dirty..and too crowded. I'd take Flushing any day. TAIWANESE people rock!!

<--- is Taiwanese and AWESOME! :p

Absolutely correct. You and I are about the same age. I grew up in NYC; spent the first 25 years of my life there. Under Koch and Dinkins, the place was a crack-infested hot spot just slightly less dangerous than Baghdad, Iraq. Not a whole lot less, though. :rolleyes;

I left in 1993. I've been back four times since then for no longer than one week. Just the sight of it makes me puke. I feel bad for my family; most can't afford to leave and those who can don't b/c they dont' "know anything exists" outisde of NYC.

Yep, New York is filthy. I was so disgusted when I visited New York City. If all of the USA were like that, I would run away real fast. LOL!

Anyway, I'm afraid I'm going to have to move there at some point. I don't want to, but I know I have to drop the negative view of New York and adjust to the lifestyle soon. Get feisty to survive . . . you know. . . . ;)

I wonder how many of those "flash mobs" occurred while the power was out...probably none since email and cellphones were down, huh? Would been the perfect time to do one too...all the cameras out there and all the media coverage...
