Guys I just discovered something else outrageous. On airplanes, they have this special seats for poor people. They are much smaller and less comfortable, and don't come with amenities like free drinks. I'm outraged ;colbert

JIf there's a tax break to the developer (which I haven't been able to confirm yet) that's merely the city helping the low income tenants to pay their rent.
Fern

The developer gets millions in tax breaks per year, per building. Average of $114,000 per building per year with the inclusion of the low-cost units versus $4,400,000 without such exemptions.

"...five of the luxury firm’s towers cost the city $21.8 million in tax revenue in their first year alone.
Together, the buildings paid just $567,337 in annual taxes. Without the 421a program, they would have paid the city $22 million, according to appraisal firm Miller Samuel Inc."

you left out an important part

"Under Extell’s plans for the low-income units, a studio will go for $845 a month, a one-bedroom for $908, and two-bedrooms for $1,099. "

"Fat cats living in the condos will pay more than $1,000 per square foot"

It's rather telling that Eskimospy thinks it's humiliating to the poors to use a separate door instead of that the people involved are living on the dole. Guess he's afraid of the riots that may result if we don't provide full amenities paid for by others.
