I've never been before and am trying to get my wife a surprise present for her b'day in the form of a New York trip. Can anyone suggest a hotel to stay and how much it will cost? And activities for the 2 days (March 31 / April 1).

Thanks

There's hotels in every price range in NY. You're better off checking priceline or somewhere.

As far as stuff to do, well, depends what you're into. Museums up the arse, Broadway shows, Madison Square Garden for sports/concerts, art galleries, restaurants, sight seeing, etc.

Wow, I just realized I live there and don't do squat :(

If you're not prepared to spend ~$200/night, you end up staying in some grungy, stuffy rathole that'll give you new meaning of how bad hotels can get here in the US.

Use points, Hotwire or Priceline...

Sofitel New York

Stayed there a short while back, BEAUTIFUL hotel and gets excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Excellent location to boot.

I'm headed there this weekend, staying at the Courtyard Marriott on 40th near Times Square (very close to the Sofitel listed above). It runs $219 a night, I'll report back if its any good or not. Should be decent being a slightly higher end chain. Can't beat the centralized location though on either of these for sightseeing.

I pass it every day. Looks like a nice hotel.
