these are the specs.

nx chip set
adaptec aha-2940w
matrox mystique 220 4megs
compaq nic

fujitsu m2915q (2.1 gig)scsi 2
sony sdt2000 tape drive

and it runs winnt4.0 sp3.
yes it works, so could i set this up as a BSD box or a linux box? or should i just reformat and have another nt box.

You've done better than me. I picked up an aptiva from my trash (also in nyc) which I set up with win95 and gave to a cousin's daughter who is in college and it's been working great. Sounds like you have a great linux box there. The recent distributions will recognize your scsi card. I'm not sure about using dual processors in linux but I believe it's suppported. Certainly dual 90s would be plenty powerful enough for typical linux server aps or even just a workstation to play with. My only problem with linux on a p90 was when I loaded up the x-window interfaces, especially gnome. I had an archaic graphics card though, and if you have any decent pci graphics cardin the box with a few megs of ram you should be fine (I have an S3 running on a pentium pro 200 which runs great with x-windows) Or you could trash the MB and CPUs and replace them, but then you would probably need to replace the ram and it's not worth the effort.

Or you could just go and keep on running NT 4. It will certainly run NT server, although you might want to add some more ram if you go that route.
