I love this line:

The team estimates its annual stadium expense will increase from $22 million to $68 million, money that will be deducted from its locally generated revenue when calculating revenue-sharing payments to major league baseball.

Assuming the revenue-sharing rules don't change substantially after the current collective bargaining agreement expires in December 2006, the ballpark payments will cut the revenue-sharing money some teams otherwise would receive

I say good, enough of having teams like Tampa pocket revenue sharing without using it for what it was intended for - the team.

I just want the Mets to get a new stadium already.. Shea is a damn dump. I like the design that I saw years ago with the "Ebbets Field" look on the outside but with a very modern look inside.

The new Yankee Stadium will be called... Yankee Stadium duh! They make enough money that they dont need any corporate crap name. I think the new Mets stadium will probably have a corporate name attached.. meh..

poor Tampa, Kansas City..etc..stupid teams that don't use the money to sign good players. I hear the Twins owner is a cheap bum too..amazing how they win all the time..shows how good their scouts and minor league system is.

The twinkies just resigned Radke & Santana, so it's not like they don't spend any money. Pohlad is still a cheapskate, but it's not like we're winning with a bunch of AA scrubs.

Indeed, it is. But that is exactly what this team deserves. For God's sake they play in a place named Flushing.

oh I understand.. I know they spend some money and that they have a great team but sometimes I think they just need that one allstar hitter or pitcher to get them to the series but that costs money or prospects.

How about a stadium for the Twins..they can't possibly be playing in that big ugly dome forever. Are they are getting a new stadium soon?

From what I understand, Yankee Stadium will remain standing and serve as a "museum" of sorts.

Yeah the Jets wanted the state to help pay like $300 MILLION to build a stadium in NY;
The Yankees are using their own money.

I think Jets wanted a lot more than $300 million. They wanted to have the city pay for the retractable roof ($600 million I believe).

To be honest I don't even know anymore. They say it has a decent chance now that the Twins dropped their request for a retractable roof, but I'm not expecting much. The legislature can't even agree on a budget, and 75% of Minnesotans don't support public funding, so who knows.

Having a stadium, especially a football stadium in Manhattan is just a stupid idea.

They should try for Staten Island. Good central location, with relatively cheap real estate and availability of land.

Traffic would be insane at the Verezzano, the Outerbridge and Gothels.
They should try for Flushing, near Shea, but they won't. They'll be back in the Meadowlands.
