New XP "Issue" For Me Today :(

I went to connect today.. And it said.. "Connecting to miniport WAN" Umm.. of course.. nothing happened. The PC froze and I had to do a hard reboot, and then I clicked repair the conn.

I have seen this happen before on others PC's usually it will only solve itself once or twice, then they are SOL. And have to reinstall XP.

So hopefully someone here knows what it is XP is doing, and has a solution.

Thanx

If your not connect to a network then try right clicking on MY NETWORK PLACES then properties . You should see the WAN connection just disable or delete it .

Actually, it probably isn't on your desktop. Open up my computer, and there should be a link to My Network Places to the left. If you still can't find it, you can get to the Network properties by Start > Settings > Control Panel > Network Connections...

Ok.

1. I have NO network places.
2. The WAN miniports are in my computer> properties>device manager> internet adaptors> show hidden devices.
3. Our friendly neighbour "Paunchy" who is a poster here, and a friend with a CS degree tried to eliminate them.. When he did so.. I could not connect at all!! Even Ms' Site says you need the Wan miniport driver installed.

Sooooo.. here I am still left wondering, and awaiting the next time this happens.

I also would love to know why I don't have an icon for my network places in my computer, but oh well.

**Edit** and no this is a fresh install, and I have not removed or deleted a single icon. I promise 🙂

You can manipulate your desktop icons here: control panel / display / desktop / customize desktop.
About your WAN miniport problem...I had the same issue. I think I saw one of your earlier threads saying you had DSL. For my DSL to work I had to set up a dial up connection and they told me to dial this two digit number. Try asking your ISP about that.
