New XGI cards.....hopefully a step in the right direction

jus been reading about xgi's new cards....not much no specs or out but seems theyve learnt from their mistakes from last time

they have dropped the dual chip design, and reckon they have an innovative design to enable them to compete

they are pushing PCi express parts (native like ati) and boasting full shader model 3

and they have a developers website full of all the latest an greatest softwares n stuff

i hope they do deliver on their promises...i for one would like to see a third horse in this race

I'd like to see them make something worthwhile as well. Their V3 actually wasn't a bad card if you weren't a gamer. They definitely CAN do it, but we'll have to see if they actually do.

If they have the money to throw away, I say let them. Its going to take a hell of a lot of money to break into the market leaders market share even if they do have a superior product (AMD Vs. Intel (no flames, just a comparison)).

A 3rd competitor in the market would be enjoyable. Whether they can make it there remains to be seen however.

Even if they can get developers to use the product, I doubt they will go out of their way to write any special code for XGi hardware. But maybe they will get valuble feed back from developers that will help improve their product, but it could take quite some time before it bears any fruit.

If XGI adhered to the Microsoft DX spec, developers won't have to.

that would be disasterous....who owns them by the way they seemed to have enough money go throwing 2 gpus on one card, and theyre coming back for more...surely theyre already in debt?

They are probably backed by someone who has a seething hatred for ATI and Nvidia. Hmmm. Billionaires who once had huge 3dfx stock? Who knows..
