Ok, so it's not really NEW...but it has a new HSF on it...and i think it has a heatsink on the memory? correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm guessing that that's what the separate heatsink is for...

Does anyone know if this card is better then their other 6600GT/ other brands of 6600GT?

I've heard problems about the heatsink falling off, not being on right, etc, or that some 6600GT's cause problems on peoples computers.

If anyone know anything about this "update" to the card, i would greatly appreciate it.
 
got this card and rma'd it. heatsink doesn't cover rams as u can see on the picture too where they are not even fully under the heatsink. got temps at 60 idle and 85-90c on 3dmark load. also had multiple freezing problems which i isolated to being a heat problem.
 
huh.....that sucks...i've heard some people say that the xfx has been fine....ok, i really dont want any hassle, so what would be the best 6600GT (dont care about performance) in terms of quality?
 
I have the MSI 6600GT. It came without the holding bracket attached to the heatsink, and the heatsink fell off after running for about 5 minutes in my computer. Only the thermal pads were holding it on! However, besides that glitch, and finding a driver that worked, it's a decent quality card. The heatsink touches the RAM, which is nice. It also has VIVO (but no tuner).

LeadTek is always a good brand.
 
uhhhhhh so would it normally come with one of those brackets???

anyone else....cuz msi doesnt sound good right now...
 
I have a XFX 6600GT AGP with the new chrome fan. Unfortunately for XFX, the early versions of its 6600GTs apparently had numerous problems - or atleast more problems than most of the other brands out there. When I first installed my card I did have some problems, but these were related to a lack of power and proper drivers. A new power supply and updated drivers (67.66 for me) have made all things good. The only complaint I have now is fan noise, which I plan to address with a Zalman VF700-cu as soon as I can put the money together.

By the way, someone mentioned the MSI 6600GT. I seriously considered buying one because I've had great luck with MSI cards - I had a GF4 Ti4600 in my main machine and still have a GF3 Ti500 in my backup machine. It's a great looking card and I liked it because it has VIVO. But I ended up buying the XFX because I was in the right place at the right time to find a bargain. Anyway, a friend of mine did buy the MSI and we compared our cards side-by-side and were surprised to find that aside from the heatsink, one "coil", and the actual color of the board, they were identical. I mean they were IDENTICAL in the layout and every last component. We also tried them in the same machine and found the performance to be identical too. I think my friend was disappointed because he paid roughly $40 more than I did.😀 So the moral of the story is because people are hating on the XFX so much you might be able to get an excellent bargain like I did!
 
i also have an xfx 6600gt. The new fan is a bit of a dissapointment because first of all, it is loud. My gfx card is the loudest thing in my comp. Second, the fan doesnt keep my card cool enough. XFX isnt a bad card, i would just replace the cooling solution. Right now im springing for a Jetart JACSH1.

I would also highly recommend evga for their awesome overclocking capabilities
 
i had no problems with the old version in terms of stability or performance, but the old HSF was pretty pathetic, so I imagine this will be a step up. My temps were hitting 80C or higher in HL2, which is just unacceptable. The VF700-AlCu solved the problem nicely, though, so if you do have problems with the HSF, you could always go that route, it's only $30 and it can be used on most future upgrade cards, as well. Besides, XFX is one of the most inexpensive brands around (~$180), so for $210 you could have a 6600GT with great cooling and dual DVI (which I absolutely love for my dual LCD setup).
 
I was maxing out at around 60-65c on this card with the rev2 HSF. The temp was acceptable, but the fan sounded like a vaccum cleaner.
