New XBOX360 game cases

I got COD:W@W, and it's the newest game I have. The spindle-holder in the case is so tight onto the hole in the CD that I really have to force it out everytime I want to play.
I just looked closely at my CD, and I noticed a crack in the hole area, and although I can still play, I'm worried that the crack will expand and eventually make my CD unplayable.

Has anyone else noticed that their CD-cases' spindle-holders are really tight now?
And have you experienced any similar issues?

Thanks

Well it hasn't cracked any of my other CD's, and this is the only game with a case that's really tight.
I haven't moved my 360 from horizontal to vertical and vice versa for as long as I can remember.

I'm not sure how the 360 cracks it, but this is just a small crack in the clear-plastic spindle part of the CD. It hasn't protruded into the data area...yet...

Look, we all know you love your PS3, but that's not an excuse to troll in every 360 thread. I've never even _heard_ of the 360 cracking optical discs - it only scratches them if you're dumb and move the thing while it's on. What the OP is describing is a fairly common problem, but it has zero effect on the actual data portion of the disc. Put it this way: it's probably better than having it fall off the spindle and scratch itself in the box.

if you keep doing what your doing now it will expand and will make its way to the data part of the disc. Take it back to where ever you got it explain the problem and ask for a exchange for the same game.

If the new case is the same just keep the disc in another case.

FWIW, you sound as much of a fanboy as Baked.

First of all, the RRoD is not an annoyance. It's a class action lawsuit.

Second of all, my 360 eats discs for breakfast (yet another class action lawsuit), and I've ***NEVER*** even played it vertically, let alone moved it while in use. I treat my equipment with kid gloves, but the disc drives, like every other hardware component in the 360, are absolute trash. If the guy's disc has a fracture in it, especially at the center where the G's are highest during operation, it's only going to get worse.

The system, arguably, offers the best games and indisputably has the best online service/presence, but the system itself is made of eggshells, so don't kid yourself.

FWIW, you can look at my sig. Most fanboys don't, you know, own all the other systems. I call it like I see it, and I stand by my comments. At least you know I have personal experience with all those systems, so my opinion might actually be based on something resembling reality.

Do I favor my 360 at the moment? You bet. But then again, I probably spend just as much time on my PS3 (albeit playing PS2 games). I'm sorry you're having problems with your 360, but all systems have hardware issues - just ask about the number of failures of blue lasers in PS3s. I will admit, though, that hardware issues that _eat games_ are particularly lame, and that Microsoft should have taken a more proactive approach to fixing that particular problem.

The simple fact remains that 360s don't crack discs - in rare cases, they scratch them.

To be fair, I called you a fanboy not because of how many consoles you do or do not own, but because of how quickly you jumped to your feet after being provoked by a rather benign, tongue-in-cheek comment.

Keep in mind that a lot of the categorical "360 hate" is also based on reality. I remember when anyone who complained about the RRoD was labeled a PS3 fanboy or a child who didn't know how to take care of their equipment. More recently, the same can be said for disc scratching. Facts are surfacing, however, that indicate if your 360 is on and loaded, it can wreck a disc. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if we come to find that this is even more common than the RRoD ever was, because it's absolutely independent of the operating conditions and solely the product of the quality of the components. With the RRoD, you weren't actually guaranteed a failure; it was just a very real possibility due to design vulnerabilities. With disc scratching, it's almost an inevitability.

Fortunately, despite the scratches, all of my discs are still readable, but I've read many counts of those not so lucky. I'm sure that, given time, mine will suffer a similar fate.

it only scratches them if you're dumb and move the thing while it's on

But honestly, this is actually why I responded to you, as it's a rather unfair statement that falsely generalizes both the 360 and its users.

While I'm quite sure the original comment by Baked was a tongue-in-cheek poke not to be taken so literally, it does properly characterize the typical "360 experience", which is often plagued by hardware failures, disc read errors, maimed discs, fragmented hard drives, and now, discs that are damaged right out of the box. I just purchased NHL 09, and out of the box, it looks like someone took a piece of steel wool to it. Of course, most of my discs look like that simply because they've spent time spinning in the 360's gauntlet.

I'd agree with you if it were pretty much anyone other than Baked.

I doubt the 360 cracked the disc. An optical drive spinning that fast isn't just going to crack a disc, it'll shatter it. I'd be concerned about using that disc. If it shatters in the drive, you'll probably end up paying $100 for a replacement drive. I'd check Activision's website to see if they will replace the disc. Discs do have warranties, but I don't know how long they are. If it's not covered under warranty, it may cost quite a bit to get it replaced unfortunately. :(

I had some old gamecube games that had tight holders, some discs did get tiny cracks that over time would let air onto the foil and render it useless. I'd try to get a replacement if I were you but if you cant then a drop of krazy glue on the non-data side should seal the crack and toughen it up a bit. Or you can get a clear cd/dvd cover for it. At least it wouldnt worsen over time.

x2 Back in the day I put a cracked cd (cracked only a little bit in the clear area) in a PC CD drive, it shattered inside the drive and I had to disassemble the drive and clean up the tiny pieces with tweezers LOL

EDIT: Also all of us 360 owners know how fast they like to spin em DVDs, so i would say don't take chance.

:( that sucks. I guess i won't be playing cod:w@w much anymore. I'll try to sell it on eBay with a disclaimer; I'm sure most people won't care about a crack since they probably rarely shatter

Good night - thanks everyone
