New XBox games after XBox360 Release

I remember when PS2 first came out, there were still games made for both PS consoles. I am now wondering if the Xbox will still be the beneficiary of continuing new games or if developers will only be writing for the 360.

Or, to give you more info on my dilemma:

My PS2 is broken-dead. I'm looking to buy a new console, but since I don't own a digital or HD TV, I think that the benefits of the XBox 360 won't be worth the price difference with a tradition XBox, considering that one can now be had pretty cheaply, while the 360 will run $500 with one game and more if you get the Gold membership and more accessories. I mainly play Madden and NCAA Football and if they continue to be released on XBox, buying a 360 would be IMHO (for me in my situation-not for everybody) a waste of money.

What's everybody think?

Madden is coming out for the 360. NCAA maybe this year, definitely next year.

Titles will continue to come out for the Xbox for a few months, then it will slow a lot until it's just a trickle by mid 2006.

Best-selling titles will, if you buy the hard drive version ($399).

There is no true hardware compatibility, running xbox 1 games requires a combination of emulation software and porting/fixup work by Microsoft, so only some titles are going to work.

There's still something like 120 new Xbox titles coming out in 2006, despite the release of the X360 in 2005.

By the way, regarding backwards compatibility...the latest rumor (from official xbox magazine) is that some games including Halo 2 will run at 720p when emulated on the Xbox 360 instead of the original 480p.

Is the "major" issue w/ compatibility due to going from nVIDIA to ATI kami?

I think there will be plenty of games until late 2006.

I'm thinking about buying a XBox now to replace the one I have (slowly going out, DVD drive/Power supply issues). I'm not sure if its a good ideal to do that, or just sell what I have and wait for a 360 price drop. I really wished that the 360 would have been fully backwards compatible, and not just with select games.

That and the fact that they switched to an Apple processor.

Almost all the games are going to be BC. Very few won't be, I wouldn't worry about it. Get an X360, play the old games if you'd like, play the new games too.

The thing that's important to remember, once the PS2 came out, people stopped playing PSX. People worry about it before it comes out, about games and backwards compatibility, but soon no one cares because the new games are that much better.

Not true. It costs MS money for each port, and they have only promised to port top sellers.
