New Xbox could be in development.

i'd be REALLY shocked if the next Microsoft (and Nintendo and Sony) consoles aren't in development currently.

This.

The title should be more like "New Xbox should be in development."

The bad news in all of this is that if they are just now really kicking of development of the next Xbox then we are probably looking at a minimum of another two years before launch.

How can people say they're still happy with the current consoles? The Xbox 360 was pretty decent in 2005, but it is total crap in 2011. Consoles should come out every 4-5 years. At $400-$500 per console, that's only $100/year - less than the cost of two new games!

Personally, I'd be upset if this is merely when they're starting to develop the next Xbox. I hope this is simply when we're finding out about it, but that it's been in development since ~2008. I can't imagine what a piece of junk the Xbox 360 will be in 2-3 years! Here's hoping for a 11/2012 release!

i'm still perfectly happy, there really is nothing that is out that i am saying 'man i wish it had better graphics!!' or anything of that nature. only thing was better on some games was the netcode, but that is also partially due to me only being able to get 3mb dsl here.

I'd always assumed Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft started work on their next consoles as soon as they released their current ones. I'm surprised to hear it only took 2 years for the Xbox360 to go from the concept stage to product release?

"Hey guys, let's do something really fun like make a clamp on the motherboard an X for xbox because people will see it and think it is rad!"

How is it total crap? The games being released are fine.

Good, seeing the BF3 gameplay the other day had me realizing I need to buy a new computer shortly. That means I can build a beast now that will hold me over two years until the next round of consoles.

I'm sure they are already 2+ years into serious work on it in some capacity. I would imagine hiring for the team for it will ramp up as it gets more into 'practice' and less 'theory'

because there is very little if anything to complain about

The big problem is not enough horsepower for native 1080p support (in most games), but other than that they are pretty decent. What I'm worried about is backward compatibility and how DLC will transition from this generation to the next. Right now, we are in the first console generation that has allowed people to make a substantial investment in DLC. I certainly don't want to see it all thrown away when the next gen consoles show up.

There's not even enough horsepower for native 720p let alone 1080. Give me minimum 720 in every game and I'll be happy.

The Xbox is total crap in 2011? You're a moron.

The reason people are still happy with it is because they still enjoy whats offered. Sounds crazy huh.

Assuming the next gen shows up at the price range of $600 or less, it'll still be cheaper to stick to the life cycles of consoles over the life cycles of PC's by far. Who cares if for a couple of years the PC's get better graphics, the graphics aren't that bad on consoles.

Such a tired argument. I can do lots more than just game on my PC. Of course it costs more.

if microsoft was smart they'd work on it and try to intro it at 299 or so.

My guess is to keep backwards compatibility with not just games but all the online stuff people bought they will essentially "tape" two 360s together. It'll keep development costs down and probably allow them to sell @ the start for profit.

Yeah but you don't need a gaming rig nor do you need to upgrade every couple of years to do all that. The money spent on a gaming rig could get just a regular PC and a PS3, and you wouldn't be upgrading ever. Saves money.

I guess, but console users also have to play shooters with analog sticks. Joke's on them. I'll pay the extra money to play specific genres with superior controls as well as having an electronic device that can do a whole lot more than game. People pay premiums for many things in life, I'm sure you're not excluded from that group.

Of course new consoles are in some stage of development. The xbox 360 is nearly 6 years old. And lets not kid ourselves about the current group being powerful enough. How many games run with KillZone 3-levelgraphics at 1080p in 60fps?
