I saw this article on Gamespot, thought it was interesting. I had a feeling that the 54% reported failure rate was a little skewed. According to this article, Jasper Xbox's have a failure rate of less than 4%. I'll be picking up one of those new Jasper Elites tomorrow. They are supposed to have a new dvd drive that is much quieter. The Xbox is a pretty safe bet now, just kind of sucks it took Microsoft a couple of years to work out the kinks.

It's just too bad if RMA your fail-tastic Xenon or Zephyr 360, you still get a "fixed" Xenon or Zephyr back instead of them just eating that and sending you back a newer model not as prone to tank 6 months later. Then they just keep sending you those until your 3 years are over, then you're either forced to buy a new 360 or just not own one.

Some people get back Opus chips (Falcon chipset without the HDMI) and some don't. I don't know the rhyme or reason but they should stick with Opus chipsets and start moving towards Jasper replacements.

SquareTrade has issued a survey of 16,000 game consoles it serviced from the second quarter of 2007 to the first quarter of 2009.

Most of the launch units were already dead by the second quarter of 2007 :)

Also, MS and Sony normally service their own consoles during the first year, and first 3 years for the 360 RRoD / E74.

Yes, but SquareTrade still serviced 360s that experienced the RROD under their warranty during this period. The % is less interesting than watching the trend line. It shows the RROD failures dropping with the introduction of the Falcon and Jasper chipsets.

True, it seems to show Jasper has solved the RRoD. Hopefully my new Elite will be as reliable as my launch 60GB PS3.
