i was just wandering through the creative web site and found the new drivers. They came out the 14th. They fix the issue with 4gb ram in vista x64.

Direcly from the creative site:

Fixes:

Resolves the issue for systems with 4 GB of RAM.
Resolves the Digital I/O detection issue when restarting your computer.

It also applies to XP x64. I googled searched and found out that people where having problems with eax on xp when they added 4gb ram. It had something to do with the drivers conflicting with the memory remapping. I don't see how this affects vista because eax doesnt work without alchemy but you might as well install it. It will proably be another six months until they release new drivers for the x-fi

The 4GB issue was fixed in the last driver, so unless there were still some lingering issues for some users I doubt it's been fixed again. This release seems to bring the XP and Vista drivers to parity, but I'm not sure what's really been changed.

I didn't really have problems before, and after installing the new drivers, I still don't have problems. So I'll assume creative is doing their job.

I'm wondering about that myself (the supposed issue with 4GB of RAM) 😕.
The 4GB issue? Creative's drivers weren't entirely 64bit compatible, they had issues with DMA buffers above the 32bit address limit. As a result when they first ported them over to 64bit they'd have a lot of problems like audio cut outs and static from the mic input. It wasn't until the last couple of driver revisions that all of the problems were hammered out.
