New X-Fi... audio problems

I picked up the basic X-fi a few days ago to replace my onboard sound. Everything went fine for the install. Came home today and the sound was horrible. The msuic sounded like a ringtone from a cell phone. I dug through every possible setting, tried to ensure there were no conflicts, etc. I mean this couldn't be a driver problem, it worked fine two days ago.... After an hour or so I visited Creative's web site and found that new drivers had been released yeterday. I installed all available updates and magically the audio is now fine. Anybody else have problems like this?

I have an Audigy LS and played UT2004 with EAX hardware enabled. I have a receiver and a Sony Xplod sub. Ok, the sound was crap. I stopped playing the game and just gave it to my friend who wanted to try the game out. No, I liked the game, I'm just moving on, and don't feel like fixing the problem because I got bored with the game anyway.

What I meant was has anybody had the sound good on inital install, then degrade, but be magically fixed a new driver? No other hardware or software changes were made....

I bought the same card last week. It's worked fine. Were there any release notes on what the driver fixed? I remember initially setting it up in Battlefield 2 for X-fi/EAX, Ultra High Quality and it's worked perfectly fine since....I went into it today and all that wasn't selected and it said "AUDIO_RENDERER" instead of software, hardware, or X-fi. I tried changing it all back but then I got a message saying that my hardware didn't match the settings and I needed to reset them to default....however, it seemed to keep the settings saved.

...wierd, but then I remembered I didn't have the card in "game mode"....I imagine that may be what caused that "wierdness". I didn't have a chance to play and see, and now I'm at work tonight, but I'll hopefully have time to tool around with it tomorrow.

Regarding Valkerie's post: Seriously......sniff glue much?

No release notes that I could find, but there were 4 updates released yesterday. The auto update feature on their website will pull them for you but you have to use IE. You can pull them manually if you are using Firefox
