new wrinkle on cd burner problem

I tried the irq solution and the computer says the burner does not use resources. Strike out here but along the way another thing happened. I noted that in the settings area the Dialup Adapter was still enabled so I disabled it thinking the dsl probably does not use it. After reboot I was able to burn one track and then two tracks on separate cd-rs. When I set up the whole disk for a burn, aprox. 8 tracks, it locked up again after 1 or 2 per cent. An expensive way to get only 2 songs! Any thoughts here?
