I should ask that in a different way: how would a stock 2003 WRX with 227hp compare to a chip-modded 215hp (approx.) Audi A4 1.8T Quattro? I mean, once you got the WRX loaded to the point where you'd want it, it might cost as much as an A4 1.8T.

Edit: I like this new WRX, though. I may have to give one a test drive. How are Subarus in terms of reliability?

There really aren't too many options for the WRX (unless you really want rubber floor mats or an AC Hepafilter). The only REAL options are the spoiler, 17" wheels (16" are the biggest for the 1.8T), and an upgraded stereo system w/ sub. An A4 with quattro, 16" wheels and the upgraded sound system would be a few thousand more (MSRP) than the Subaru. And then there's the cost of the chip. Of course, you're getting a much more luxurious car for the price...but it is more expensive. I don't know what the performance figures are for a chipped 1.8T, but I think the WRX might edge it out by a bit, judging from the performance of a stock 1.8T.

Subarus have a very high build quality. Not as good as Honda or Toyota but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to get one because of it.

Even a chipped 1.8T would lose to a stock WRX. Chipped 1.8ts are only quick, not really that fast.

I grew accustomed to the bug eyes look myself... perhaps with this new look, it will drop the value on them

Not really... they're a step above GM in terms of build quality, but their interiors are nothing to get off on. They use almost as much hard plastic and crappy cloth seats as GM (which isn't surprising as GM owns a part of them)

ugh. how is it ricey if it's from the factory. and besides, this is a performance car. the factory mods actually DO help the performance.

general rule of thumb, if it's functional, it's probably not rice.

Well, Subaru's usually dont have a lot of warranty issues, so you dont have to worry about always having to fix this and that...

But their interior finish is not that good... can't even compare to Honda's and Toyota's...
