New WinXP Audigy drivers at Creative's site.....

Cool! I`ll try them tomorrow 🙂,the size is smaller then I expected.

This Driver Pack is available for Sound Blaster Audigy owners operating on Windows 2000 or XP operating systems only. The driver contains optimized support for these two operating systems and is designed for use with all current models of Sound Blaster Audigy audio cards.

Added features:

Provides Dolby Digital decoding from external SPDIF Input.
Speaker settings in Creative Audio Mixer are synchronized with Windows Multimedia setting.
New presets and effects added
Fixes:

Reduces excess reverb in MIDI while using software synthesizer
Removes glitches when playing MIDI using SoundFonts®
Removes distortion during AC-3 playback
Performs recording without playback
Improves multi channel wave file playback
Hardware acceleration of Open AL.
Fixed audio distortion and slow start up when resume from standby
Fixed elevation bug causing muffled sound in some games

Huzzah. Been waiting for these, mainly before doing a new XP setup. It is newer than the Compaq and Gateway ones. Compaq is 5.12.1.244 and this one 5.12.1.253. I am glad to see they did more than just re-package them in nearly four months! Keep a lookout for new proggies too.

On my 2000 I just ran it to do an upgrade. Well, it works fine but I reckon someone shat the bed on the install folders. The previous install is in "Creative". This one is in "Creative Tech". I also have "Creative Labs" for EAX(tm) Unified (SHELL) which may have been from a particular game setup.

tried them... no problems so far... other than it practically reset all my audio settings. as far as i can tell there's no more mp3 skipping... and i'm still running winamp 2.81. 🙂

What's the deal with the American servers? 393 people ahead of me? Went to the Asian site, no wait, 250KB/s. Is there any difference between the files?

I wondered the same thing, and that's why I hit the americas server first. I went ahead and download the one from the asian site for safe keeping. 🙂

Hmmm there shouldn't be any difference... at least i don't think so.

Well... i was at the philippines this summer... and they had pretty crappy broadband... and at least a couple of months behind with computers... not to mention how much more expensive they were over there.

Maybe a coincidence, but I used to have crackling sound with the last driver set when I set the digital output sampling rate to 96Hz.

I no longer hear the crackling! Not certain it's the new drivers yet though -I'll keep playing around with 'em, but so far so good!

Not on their European site yet so I installed them from the Asian site, anyway simple install then reboot, yes it does reset all the volume settings etc to default so I had to readjust them to how I like it,tried a few games and MP3s,there was no problems so thumbs up for these drivers 🙂.

🙂

Maybe I'm just stupid and completely out of the loop, but will someone explain to me the significance of getting Audigy drivers from Gateway and/or Compaq? I got my Audigy about 2 months ago, but only have been using the driver update from Creative's site.

I was just gonna post a question about MP3 skipping. I'm using an SB Audigy Platinum with a fairly old driver set and Winamp 2.81 also. Is that combination the cause of the skipping - it's driving me nuts!

Creative has actually updated their drivers a long time ago when they switch to a unified schema for their SBLive/Audigy series (just like nVidia), but they never posted the updates on their site. The problem was that the new driver packages were enormous (377mb for v2.44 and 152+ for v2.52). These packs not only included the drivers, but all the other software as well. Because of the size, the upper echelon over at Creative couldn't figure out a way to economically host them on their servers (although you could have them sent to you for the cost of shipping the CD). The OEMs however, didn't seem to have this problem (or cared) and posted these drivers on their FTP site since few people can download a 377mb file anyway.

From the looks of it, Creative appears to have gone back to splitting the driver packs for their SBLive and Audigy series in order to make it more managable for people to download. This version for the Audigy is actually newer than anything released thus far (v2.53).

Thanks! Off to Creative's site I shall go tonight!

oooo. this driver update reminds me of the horror i experienced a few days ago updating the audigy drivers on my kt266a board. it was the driver update that sent my winXP to hell !

when creative labs said they were going to release new drivers for the audigy in mid august, did they mean for all platforms or just winxp?
