this error occurs when starting new install, new hard drive:

An exception 0E has ocurred at 0028:C00610CD in VxD VNETBIOS

microsoft says that its a windows 95 problem and doesnt occur anymore in 98.
unfortunatly, im using windows me.

searching has suggested it has to do with network devices on start up...
anyone have any other info on it?

Don't even look at the windows error codes most of the time its just crap and had nothing to do with original error. try configuring your serices and turn of netbios It a security risk to have it anyways.

IIRC, I've seen this on some of my 98se installs. It's always been a NIC driver problem.

Seems to me the NIC driver came on a cd. I used explorer and found some install notes on the cd for 98se (or ME) and followed those instructions & the problem was eliminated.
