New Win10 install, a question - Fixed it!!!

I did a Custom install and said no to everything but the security check one, Smartscreen, or whatever that's called.

I haven't run Windows Update yet. in fact, it took me around an hour to get Wifi working, it was a struggle.

Question 1: How do I activate? Just run Windows Update?

Question 2:
I have this machine (Lenovo T60 laptop) plugged into a minidock and I have been running two displays (using Win7), a 23" digitally and a 19" via VGA. I've got the 23" display working, have asked Windows to use the 19" display too. I just pointed Win10 to the driver for the 19" display (It's a Hyundai L90+, the driver was stored on my NAS) and it installed it. However, I am getting only this on the display: VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED

I go to Start> System > Display > Advanced display settings and the display is there but when I select it its resolution is shown as blank (whereas the 23" display's res is shown as 1920 x 1080), i.e. I can't change the res being sent to the display, whatever that is. 😕

Well, in Settings/About I found out that it's activated. They could have told me. Anyway, I still have no idea how to fix the VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED message on my 2nd display, the 19" on VGA (Question 2 in the OP). I went hunting for a Windows 10 driver for the monitor but everything I find appears to be involved with a scam or a $30 fee for a driver update utility. Madness. Hyundai's website is focused on CARS period!

Bump... no idea on why I can't get Win10 to indicate the res the monitor is set at? The display still says VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED

Odd I have rarely had to install any monitor drivers since early xp days.

Try removing the driver, and see if the generic PNP driver will work.
or see if it gets picked up in windows update as i have seen some monitor drivers show up there

I did that yesterday, still same message is on screen.

I have a new problem this morning. The machine will not boot. Please see my thread and post in it:

Win10 - Preparing to Repair PLEASE HELP!

Fixed it!

Woke up this morning and got an idea. OK, the res isn't supported on the secondary monitor, so what's happening? Well, probably it's getting the res that the main monitor is getting, which is 1920 x 1080. So, I figure if I set the main monitor at the 2nd monitor's native res the 2nd monitor will show up. Then I can maybe change the main monitor res back to 1920 x 1080 and the 2nd monitor's res will remain the same. My theory was correct. Some additional tinkering got the extended desktop working perfectly. I swear, this was harder than Win7, but it's working!!!!!!

Good job. That's the proper troubleshooting right there.

Dual monitors may always present some unforeseen but fixable complication.

My desktop system has a gaming 1920x1080 for its "main" desktop display. It also feeds my AVR and HDTV at 1920x1080. If there's some glitch arising from a configuration change, it's always a hassle to get things to work properly. But I don't have any discrepancy with resolutions as the OP describes, although I have in the past had the dual-monitor setup with different resolutions per the monitor limitations.
