i was at a buddys the other day and fell in love with his 22 inch widescreen monitor, now i want one. it would mainly be used for a 2nd TV when the gfs watching something crappy on the main tv, light gaming (probably just Counterstrike 1.6) and general computer stuff (surfing, word processing, ect, ect) i spend a lot of time in front of my computer and thought if i'm going to get one i should get a really nice one.

i've been looking at the Gateway FPD2485W, Dell 2407WFP, and the Samsung 244t-BK. i'd be connecting it thro DVI to a Radeon 9700 Pro. now some questions, is that card beefy enough for a 24 inch monitor? or is a 24 inch over kill for what i'd be using if for? which one of the the three would be better for what i'm going to use it for? i'm lost but know i really want a new monitor so any input would be welcome

24 is overkill for what you want to do, and 22 would be best and most cost less than 1/3 the price of most 24s.

She picked a great one. I have no trouble gaming with it. Perhaps you are over the 60 hz limit and need to turn your visul settings up higher.

Just a shot in the dark as ..."somethings just not right with it" does not say anything to me.

:)

when you say turn my visual settings up higher are you talking resolution? when gaming (and the only game i play is CS 1.6) i get 90 to 100 fps but everything just feels sluggish. i'm not sure how to explain it

well i say max everything to drop your framerate to 60FPS.

Above 60 FPS at native resolution (or 75 for lower) you go past the maximum refresh rate supported.

If you have 90FPS ..that means you will probably get tearing. If you turn on vsync you don't get tearing but then you do get a whole lotta missed frames..that may make it seem sluggish.

It is the way i figure it...because i am using an ati 9600 pro just now (and have no trouble gaming)..and can't touch 60 FPS. I will in a few weeks with a new system (i might also be complaining at that time).

So try to max out everything ..or even play at a resolution that supports 75hz with detail settings that limit you to 75 FPs or lower.
