Nice upgrade from that old hoopty.

Ortega Highway is fun. I've been up there a few times on my bike. Great road!

First off, explain the whole process.

Why?

Experiences with the M3, and what lead you to get the 911.

Also explain how you searched for your 911 and then of course compare the two cars :)

PS, I did not know that the E46 coupe rear windows could be opened!

My m3 had 125k on it and i had a feeling it didnt have a whole lot more in it. The cats were failing and the smg had given me an error or 2 so i was afraid it would go out eventually. I would have loved to drive it another 100k miles. It needed new brakes and suspension too. It really is a great all around car, great performance in a very practical package and it still looks great for being a >10yo design.

My two dream cars since i was a teenager were the m3 and the 911 so after the m i started looking to get a porsche. I wanted a car with that true sports car feel, the m handled great but always felt like a gt. i had to get a cab here in southern california (though my wife doesnt like the top down) and i really wanted to get the new 2012 991 euro delivery. But when she found i could save 40k off retail for a 2009 with only 11k miles she nixed the whole 'flying to germany and run nurburgring' thing.

The two cars drive very differently, numbers 0-60 and 1/4 are similar but feel is very different. The m3 felt softer, the 911 drives much harsher and the steering feels sharper. Easy to dive right into a turn with the light frontend but the backend can get a little out of control if a bit too fast. The m was better in that respect with a better weight distribution. The 911 has a broader powerband it seems and the m really shone at high revs. Pdk is much much faster than the old smg in shifting but i hate how the clutch is automatically engaged in1st gear. Oh, the porsche is also super impractical with barely any trunk space at all, though the back 2 seats holds my golf clubs. Great cars both but i am loving my ride. Hope that helps.

Congrats man. I'm super jealous. The 911 is my favorite car of all time. If I have the money, I would go all out and get a Turbo S.
