Hey guys, i just bought this watch online. I wanted a bigger watch than my currents (~40mm) and after a few drinks may have just done an impulse buy. I have never seen it in person or on my wrist. I narrowed it down from these three (L to R is 42, 44, and 49mm) which was narrowed down from like more than 20. I dont tend to like chronos, but this one did it for me (both chrono and diver). Thoughts?

"Get a name brand?" WTF? You dont know much about watches, eh? ;)

Others in the finals: tissot, oris, esq, hamilton (already have one), luminox, tag (not enough money), alba (seiko, meh), traser (obviously), and chase durer. Any of those ring a bell?

i have an esq and a tag, neither of them are great watches (got the ESQ cuz it looked like the TAG SEL, now i have the TAG Link).

I bought my dad a Rolex when I was in Switerland this year and found out that Tissot and Rolex are the same company, like how Pulsar is the lower end Seiko

This mean seem a bit pedestrian but if you have a Fossil Outlet near you, be sure to check it out! Plenty of chrono choices for less than half retail. I bought this Fossil Arkitekt for $59. If I told somebody I spent $300 for the watch they might believe me because it has a real presence about it in person.

I once bought a $650 Raymond Weil watch when I was younger and dumber. Never spend good money on a watch, it's a waste.

This is completely false. Tissot is among the Swatch group, along with Omega, Hamilton, Longine's and several other Swiss makers. Rolex is a completely separate, family-owned company. Tudor is the "lower-end Rolex."

So, what do you think about my choice Don? I wanted to stay under $500. Im sure you can tell that by looking at my "final 3."

Honestly it's not really my thing, but to each his own. I have 6 or 7 diver's watches, but I prefer mechanical watches, and designs that are a little less busy than those. Still, enjoy your watch!

In case you're interested, here are most of my divers - these are all automatic, mechanical watches:

Yao-customized Seiko SKX007

Another Yao Seiko SKX007

Seiko SKX779

Seiko SKX781

Seiko SBDA001

Yea, i have two divers that are clean (like yours) and a classic hamilton. I just felt like getting something different. We will see if i actually wear it frequently. If i had a few grand laying around i definately would have gotten the omega seamaster. I love that watch.

yet another stupid post from this tool

Well, see, that's the thing. I never heard of Sector either. If somebody showed me their Sector watch I wouldn't have any idea how much it cost, other than build-quality cues (i.e. even if you never heard of Timex or Rolex you could tell the Rolex is the pricier watch).

And this goes with my avoid-buying-expensive-watches position. Someone here might be buying a brand (like Sector in this case) that most people aren't familiar with so who are you trying to impress? Or is this a snob thing?

Actually Rolex is owned by a non-profit organization and has certain rules in place to where it can never be bought out, sold, or taken public.

That's why I like Sectors and Omegas. Everyone knows the name Rolex, but names like Sector and Omega, only the people that know watches know those names. It separates the knows from the know-nots.
