after the last update i am getting an annoying message:

"you may be a victim of a software counterfeiting".

how do i dispose of this message ?

well - if this was a legit copy - ok then, but ....

any other way ?

This response indicates that you are knowingly using illegal S/W and are asking for assistance in covering your tracks.

Within two weeks, you should be able to figure out how to obtain a legal copy.

Even though you've only averaged about 1 post per year since you joined, you might want to edit your posts or that number might be dropping to zero. Asking for help with pirated software usually doesn't go over too well with the moderators.

Yeah, simply click the message and follow the directions. It'll help you buy a legit license and CD, and the problem will be fixed. If you don't like that solution then check with Basket Cat.

How long have you had XP, and have you been able to find a job since then?

Nevermind, go with a free OS like Linux if what XP offers you isn't worth the price they ask for it.

"you may be a victim of a software counterfeiting... or you may be a pirate... probably the latter. Just in case, your details have been reported to microsoft's security enfocement division, who will be visiting you shortly. Have a nice day."

All that means is they know your copy of Windows is Illegal or Counterfeit
There was a note about that on another forum that MS was putting that
Pop Up box in to let the Pirates now it was time to "pay the piper" so to speak

Well, at least they are not saying you Stole it in which case, they could track your IP and
then take Legal Action .. they are giving the Pirates a way to make amends with out any
consequences other than moentary .... Of course, given some of their restrictions on
it's use, I think it is priced a bit too high .... I wouldn't want to pay more than $100 or so
for Pro Retail not these insane costs like well over $200 ... just like Office, selling for
well into the high 200's or low 300 range .. make it reasonable cost, people will stay legit

I doubt that reasonable software prices would put much of a dent in piracy. Most people who pirate Windows XP probably couldn't even tell you how much it costs. They do it simply because they can get it for free.

OR because the "pirated"/hacked versions - like the Retestrak version, or the other one (whose name escapes me) made by French hackers - are actually more robust, more stable and less bloated than the stuff Microsoft is spewing out these days. In other words, they don't suck that much as the official version.
