New Volvos. - A stylish and cultured dilema.

I must say the new Volvos do appeal to me in a way that no other car does. Perhaps it's the excitment of fantasizing about owning a culturaly forbidden car, or perhaps its just the magnificent new Volvo image I am confronted with that stirs my senses.

Do we still persist in persecuting and oucasting those that fly in the face of accepted styling? Do we still stereotype the Volvo driver? Of course many still do, but I for one am drawn to the sleek but confident new lines that have arisen from many hard nights of penmanship from the design boffins at Volvo.

So I call upon modern men and women from around the world to perhaps think twice before pressing down on your horns when passing the modern Volvo driver, for perhaps they were once as you are now, but have decided the grass really is greener on a swedish lawn.

I think the new volvo's looks pretty damn sweet, I like their styling and all but the Volvo name still makes me choke.

My dad has a Volvo. FYI it's a Swedish brand, not German.

BTW, if anything gets damaged, be prepared to pay a lot of money. Cost my dad a total of $500 to replace a broken headlight.

Turbo volvos are the best sleeper cars. One day, I was driving a 740 turbo and I pull up at a stoplight. A typical riced civic HB (lowered, loud exhaust) driven by a black guy pulls up beside me. We look over at each other and we know whats up. So the light turns, and we are at it. His car revs incredibly loudly, but is also losing. I pull cleanly and just keep piling on the car lengths on his ass. I quickly reach another stoplight and I notice that the civic is taking it's sweet time and doesn't seem to want seconds. The thing about cars with exhausts is that you look hella stupid if you lose a race when your car sounds like it's dying trying to keep up :p

Here's a link (gf filming it:) )

Video taken last weekend, when our Volvo-store had free testdrive the whole day.

I drove the S60 2,4T (as shown in the clip above), the V70 XC, the V40 T4!!! (YEAH BABY!)

They all rock!

i think the C70 coupe is awesome. That would be one of the top cars I would buy if I had that much money. I think it just looks really cool. The new one, the S60 is tite. I have definitely changed my mind about volvos. Even the old ones with turbo are sweet.

late.

to say that Volvo owners tend to be anal-retentive is an understatement !!

Ahhh this is music to my ears. Indeed the times they are a changing. From the sound of it people are much more tolerant of the mighty swedish automobile than in the past.

I wonder what all the poeple will drive now that used to like the ultra-weird/conservative/boxy volvos?

NaughtyusMaximus: He has a '96 Volvo 960 Turbo, I think the place he repaired it at had to import the parts in.

heh....here in Volvoland you can find parts for your Volvo real cheap. Of course. Same as it is for you with american cars I guess. if you go to the car-killers they more or less throw old volvoparts at you ...

anyway

I love the shift lever in the S60. Volvo did a good thing by adapting the S80 rear end to the S60. I still want to find a duplicate of the old 245 DL my parents used to have. First car I have any memory of at all. Didn't Volvo used to have a comercial of a 745 Turbo (745 = 740 wagon) beating a Porsche 924 around a racetrack?
