Just like with us Cruze Eco owners make sure your tires are inflated to 38-43 psi.

At expense to tire wear. Isn't that somewhat counterproductive?

I am just about to turn 61,000 miles on my Goodyear FuelMax Assurance tires (the same tire the OP should have on his Volt) and still have 5/32" tread left. I have kept my tires at 42 psi from day one (max psi stated on tire is 51) and have a total 41.8 mpg average. (http://www.fuelly.com/car/chevrolet/cruze/2011/Vetterin/65283)
So...to answer your question.......you tell me.

False. This was applicable until tires started having steel belts in them. Generally speaking, higher pressure also raises the speed in wet conditions before hydroplaning occurs. The biggest problem with higher pressure is a rougher ride.

I run with 50PSI in my Insight's tires, which is max sidewall, and have come very close to breaking 800 miles on a 10 gallon tank.
