You have to request it through the link and they send you a passworded self-extracting .exe. I installed it on a test machine and I'm personally not noticing any difference. I don't recall seeing the specific error indicated in the KB, though.

This apparently will be part of the next Performance and Reliability update due later this year. I don't think there's any urgency in installing it.

What I AM interested in is anecdotal evidence. I've heard on a few forums that this stops Source based games from spitting out an error message if you quit from within the game. I get that error all the time if I quit CS:S or TF2 and it's annoying because it messes up your reliability ratings on an otherwise stable system.

I'd be interested to here what forum members here have to say about it.

I don't experience any crashes (maybe sometimes), I'll install it if this improves the performance....

I don't get crashes while playing anything source based, I just get an error message after it closes saying that it crashed. Doesn't affect anything since I was closing the game anyways.... :p

I'll wait to see what issues people have with the update before trying it out.

Yeah, that's the symptom I was trying to describe. I don't experience and crashes in game either. Just when I exit the game from within the game I get the HL2.exe has crashed error. I haven't been able to test the patch at home yet.

If I quit the game and go to the menu before exiting to windows the crash doesn't occur. Only if I quit the game in the middle of action.
