Has anyone heard when the new ViewSonic LCDs (the VG700 and VX2000, with 16 and 11 ms response times respectively) will be available. THW's 'Sexy LCD 17" Monitors' article from April 29 said that the VG700 will be available in June. I read somewhere else that the VX2000 would also be released in June.

Well, we're more than half way through June, and I haven't heard anything new about these monitors. Does anyone have new information on the release data, or the exact specs for each device, or even a press release from ViewSonic acknowledging their existence?

11ms response times!?? :Q Is that the TOTAL of raise and fall times?? That'd be like 6ms raise and 5ms fall times...

From the info at THW, yes, that's 11 ms total. That's a "frame rate" of over 85 / s. So, if the VX2000 is a 20" LCD (and at that size its native resolution better be no less than 1600x1200) and supports 85 FPS, well, I'm drooling here.

I had heard that those initial specs may be incorrect, but unfortunately, I didn't bookmark it. I'm hoping that is correct AND they're not going to use MVA screens. Those would be great panels if that's true.

I looked on the web and some sites mentioned the figures you state but the viewsonic japanese site says differently (about the VX2000 at least)

Yeah, ViewSonic Europe and other divisions already have a VX2000 with a 25 ms response time, but the North American site lists no VX2000 at all. So I'm hoping THW is right, and that the VX2000 mentioned here is something totally new for the NA market.

Wel, I can believe that. I just got a pair of VX900s (from NewEgg) and they have a typical response time of 25 ms along with a 500:1 contrast ratio and brightness of 250 nits. They are both razor sharp, 19-in viewable. I wonder what the 20 incher will cost? These were over $900 each.

The main reason I swtiched was ambient room temperature. It is warm here in Arizona, and getting rid of 2 19-inch CRTs really has made a difference in room temp! :)

Tell me about it. I'm here in Florida, and we're dealing with lots of heat and lots of humidity. So yeah, I'd like to switch my old 19" CRT and Athlon system to a 20" LCD and a P4.

The new VX2000 will probably cost a fair amount. THW estimated the price of the VG700 at $1600. The VX2000 has a faster response, and I'm guessing that the 700 is 17" and the 2000 is 20", so I wouldn't be surprised to see something in the $2500 range. I'm hoping it comes out soon, so the price can come down a bit by the end of the year, which is when I'm looking to upgrade.
