New Vido Card Hassle

Well, I'm at home now with my laptop which is a Toshiba Satellite, 512 RAM, 2.39 GHz and an ATI Mobility Radeon video card.

My only problem is that the video card version that I have isn't supported by ATI anymore, so there are no driver updates for it.

Where and how should I go about installing a new Video card? I posted in July and someone recremended Mobility 9800Pro. Would that be practical in my situation to help me play CS:S or any other high-end game? Since it is nearly impossible to play Counter Strike on it without getting skippy and choppy.

(Side note: I posted this question before at http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...hreadid=1601936&enterthread=y&arctab=y but for whatever reason I can't reply to it, most likely because it was in July. Anyway, sorry for the repeat post)

Thanks,

James

I haven't contacted Toshiba at all because I figured they wouldn't have anything to do with this but now that you mention it I'll give them a call. But, they'll probably charge me some rip off price considering I don't have a warranty with them.

Any other options?

Thanks,

James

I don't think it would be possible to upgrade. I THINK there are laptops that you can upgrade the video card on but those are thick gamer laptops. I highly doubt your Toshiba can be upgraded, at least I have not come across one that can.

mobility card are and were never supported by ATI. If you want driver updates, get hacked ones (omega, dna, etc). You cannot upgrade your video card. If an upgraded video card was at one point supported in the product life of the laptop stock, then you might be able to order a replacement part for it from the manufacturer. Otherwise, there is no way to "upgrade" it.
