Hi all

I currently have a Radeon 7200 64 meg card in my PIII866@911Mhz system and would like to know if it would be worth my while to upgrade to a Radeon 9600 Pro or a 9500 Pro?

I am building a new system, well new when I bought the parts. Right now I have an MSI 648 Max-L mobo and 512 of DDR333 ram. But due to budget cutbacks at the homestead, I have yet to get my cpu, power supply and videocard and thus would like to know if it is worth upgrade the videocard in my current system.

Thanks All

It's hardly worth it to upgrade for your current system, you really need a faster cpu. I think it would be better to wait for your new system, so you'll be able to take full advantage of the new video card.

If you plan on transplanting the new videocard into your new system (P4?) then why not? You need to buy it anyways, right? :)

thats right and a 9500pro and a 9600pro would give a huge boost over that radeon 7200 in any game u throw at it even in ur PIII.

I think there is a misunderstanding somewhere. My current mobo is an Asus P3V4X and my "new" mobo is the MSI 648MAX-L that I bought a few months ago.

I guess I am wondering if the MSI is still a viable mobo, but due to lack of funds, it may have to last me for a while, since I can't justify buying a new 800fsb when I haven't even used this one.

So, 1.)should I buy a P4 2.4B and power supply, which I need, for the new MSI mobo and keep my current 7200? Or 2.)should I replace the 7200 in my old system with a 9600Pro, which I plan on using in my newer mobo once I get the cpu and power supply.

What framerates would I see in case 1&2?

Thanks

it all depends on what you are playing... i personally would do the CPU upgrade just cause an 866 is too slow for me any-more... but the 7200 wont play any NEW games very well. so if you are not a hardcore gamer, don't worry about it and upgrade your system. you already have the mobo... if you are a gamer and want some added FPS, i think a video card would be more effective EVEN on the 866.

it's a tough call, all depends on what you do. i spend more time putting around windows, burning CD's, reading, ETC, than i do in games, therefore I'd likely upgrade my system itself first... if all i cared about was games, i'd buy a new video card first.
