New Video Card ....

I just popped ina geforce2 ultra and installed the software cd, then downloaded the newest drivers from nvidia.

First my question...

What clock speed is an average overclock on a geforce2 ultra? Right now its at 250mhz graphic and 458mhz on the memory..that is the default.

Second.. since I installed it the start button on my windows task bar has been screwed up since I installed it, when I click it everything works fine but it doesn't look the way it should.. it kind of takes in the colors of something I have open and looks messed up.. is this ok, or should I take it as a sign that something is wrong? If so what could it be and how can I fix it?

Lastly, with the geforce2 ultra.. my average frame rate in Anarchy Online is only around 14fps!!!! This makes absolutely no sense to me. Any ideas relating to this would be appreciated. My processor is only 450mhz p3, and I only have 128mb of ram but I thought it would be at least twice 14fps!

did you remove the old video card's drivers before you installed this one's?
how about directx 8 (at least 7 anyways)?
i'm not sure but the speeds on the chip and ram seem about right for an ultra...

250/460 is what it should be at. you should be able to get it up to 285/500 by overclocking it, unless anandtech just got lucky, which I doubt. I'm getting a gf2pro by tomorrow. It would make me giddy if I can get it to 250/460. I hear its possible

Were there drives in the add/remove programs section for the old video card? ATI often has some in there, but I don't know if other companies do that as well or not. If you can get rid of those then I would advise uninstalling/reinstalling the new video card to make sure you get a good install.

I tried to overclock the video card with the software it came with called "Winfox" and everytime I change the number to anything other than 458 the entire computer locks up. This happens on two different computers, one on 98se and the other on 2000.

Is there some other program I can download to overclock my video card?

To increase the memory clock and engine clock you go to options and then performance right?

I went to performance and saw my memory speed and engine speed and the sliding bar but the bar could not be slid any further to the right and it was at the default speed settings as it is.

Did I miss something along the way?

When you get 14fps in AO, is that in the cities or outside? Because i beta tested for awhile and while in the cities, my p3 500mhz cried in pain. Its a very cpu intensive game so you may look to tone down some of the eye candy since your processor probably can't handle everything the game has to offer.
