hi i,m confused .looking at a bfg 9800gt512 at tiger direct and a 4850 ati .which is better a card with more memory or one with better core clock memory clock stream processors .how do you differentiate?1has lower numbers but more memory and the other has less memory but better clock speeds and such help to figure out.

You cannot directly compare clock speeds and shader processor number between ATI and Nvidia because they are different microarchitectures.

I believe that the 4850 is the faster of the two, by a sight margin.

Yeah, looking at the stats and numbers will never tell you which is the better video card. You unfortunately have to dig around the internet to find out - in places like this! Oh, the HD 4850 without a doubt.

So what?s the difference between Nvidia?s and ATI?s GPU architecture and why do seemingly comparable ATI cards have more stream processors than Nvidia ones? The answer lies in their different approach in implementation.
