Would there be any real benefits from making it be recognized as a 517?

A lot of the reviews say it requires a BIOS flash. Is this true? If it is, what exactly is a bios flash, and how do i go about doing it?

Sorry for the noob question :p

a bios flash is within the card itself it is a program that is actually located in the Eprom which/ is a sort of memory storage. a bios flash tells you what card you have and it is the first flash that you will see in your screen when you turn on your PC.

And if you mess up the bios flash you have a dead card. Think twice on messing with something that works. ;)

yeah, just overclock it. dont screw around with flashing it, unless you have a card that can unlock pipelines. like a 6800nu

The flash only makes it so that the clocks are permenantly like that, doesn't it? I haven't looked at the reviews, but that's what I've seen people do.

I'd personally just overclock then set it to boot up at those clocks. It's not worth the hassle / risk, especially if you've never done a flash before.
