New Video Card?

Well....

A newer card will allow for higher detail settings and higher framerates. I don't think higher detail settings make a game look more realistic, it makes them look prettier, in the end you still know you are playing a game, unless you are on Intel Extreme Graphics, then you are watching a slideshow 🙂.

If you really have the X800GTO in your signature, then you have nothing to worry about. You should be able to play the latest games a for a few more years without an upgrade.

It depends.

For many games there is a minimum amount of power needed to make it look right, after which a faster card offers dminishing returns.

For example, you can play Half-Life 2 on a radeon 9000 and it will be playable but look like it was made 5 years ago. Or on a radeon 9800 and it will look sweet. Or on a 7800GTX 512 and it will look a little better than the 9800, but with much less of a jump in quality as the one from 9000 to 9800.

About what the guy said, briefly, saying that more detailed settings don't make the game seem more realisitc?

Alright you have polygonic rocks with no shading and only 4 colors VS ...

walking through rocks with millions of colors and intense shading, you're telling me that more details isn't realistic?

play Doom II, then jump to Doom III which has more details in graphics, and tell me which is more realistic?

Please point to 1 person in this thread who recommended 9800 over 6600GT? Your sig says that you are opinionated. However, there is a difference between an opinion that is based on some merit and nonsense remarks.
