First off, my current setup is:
Asus P4C800 - Deluxe
Intel P4 2.4C 478 (oc'ed to 2.88ghz)
1GB valueRam
Asus FX-5200 128mb AGP

I rarely play games except for like NHL 06, but I wouldn't mind having a decent video card for the odd game. I was looking at the BFG 6600GT OC AGP. I would rather not switch over to PCI-E since I'd have to get a new mobo, and I don't think they even make socket 478 mobos with PCI-E do they? Either way, what are your opinions on the 6600GT OC? And also it says 350w minimum, which is what I have, so would that be fine?

6600GT is a great card to get...it will be worlds better than the 5200 you have now. infact it wont even compare. it still holds its own, even against some of ATI's newer low-mid end products

6600 GT is very good videocard. Its able to handle today's games pretty well and it is cheap. I'd go with that.

That's good to hear :) But what about the 350w, will mine be enough even if it is just a generic power supply?

well i dont think any one here will gurrantee anything, but its up to you to try. personally i wouldnt have aything less than brand name PSU's in my computers. going cheap and buying generic may save you £££ in the short term, but has more potential to cost you more later.

what are the amperages on the rails for your PSU? these should be listed in a table which is on a sticker on your PSU

Here's what I found:
Tsunami LC - B300ATX
+3.3V ---> 28A
+5V ---> 30A
+12V ---> 15A
-5V ---> 0.3A
-12V ---> 0.8A

And accually, I think it might be a 300w PS.

hmmm, you may be ok, youve got a decent OC on your CPU as well. its hard to tell if you'd be ok or not.

i mean i ran a XP2000+, a 9500pro (used a lot of power lol!) 2 hdd's, etc on a generic 375watt psu. (the xp was a palomino ie 180nm fab, and the 9500 was 150nm fab....both used alot of juice, your components are built on smaller fabs so use less power so u should be ok)

now it worked fine for along time, but this summer started giving me jip.....so that psu went out and i got a enermax. rock solid.

at the mo, the computer im on has a P4 2.4, 1 hdd, an audigy card, and the same 9500pro....running on a 400watt psu with only 12 amps on the 12v rail....it works fine once its going, but it never initializes the ethernet card on a cold boot, just doesnt have the power to.

i mean try it, you could be fine, but id try upgrade the PSU pronto

6600GT for sure. or 6800nu (regular 6800). if you can find the 6800 for less than 160 then you're set.

newegg, zipzoomfly, and monarch computers are great vendors to buy them from.

Yeah, well like I don't have a lot of peripherals, just a single CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, and a single HDD, so I hope it's alright. What will happen if the power supply isn't enough? Just some instability?

i think 6800NU may be too much for his PSU mind

"rats! foiled again!" hehe...

yeah, you're right. 6800nu might be a bit too much, unless he's willing to get a PSU upgrade.

and if you have too much stuff in your computer, it'll randomly freeze/shut down, or other wonky stuff. i had this happen when i put in 6 cold cathodes (4 blue and 2 UV), and 6 extra fans in my new case (lian li). so i upgraded to a 500W ultra x-connect and the random reboots all stopped. i even gained a 100Mhz overclock with it! (3.3Ghz to 3.4Ghz)

If you want to upgrade your psu, you can buy this 300 watt Enermax which has 22amps on the 12v for 25 dollars. That would allow you to use most graphics cards. Link

Ok, I don't know why I didn't think about this, but I have another computer downstairs with what I think is a better power supply.
Budget Computer
P4S800
Celeron D 2.4ghz
512mb Ram
30GB HDD
Asus fx-5200 (again)

The power supply on it either is 350W or 380W, but again generic. It also has much higher amperage.

Current one: +3.3V ---> 28A, +5V ---> 30A, +12V ---> 15A, -5V ---> 0.3A, -12V ---> 0.8A
New One: +3.3V ---> 26A, +5V ---> 40A, +12V ---> 17A, -5V ---> 0.3A, -12V ---> 0.8A

So the new one has lower +3.3V but everything else is higher. Would I be better off just switching the 2 so the newer one is on my better computer? BTW, the brand is like L & C techlogy I think.

6600GT would be fine. I use the cheapo 300W PSU that came with my e-machines and my PCI-E 6600GT works fine.

Don't worry about the PSU. Just go with the 6600GT, best card in the lower price range area.

yah it would be seriously bottlenecking anything higher than a 6600gt so agp would be a good solution. You dont need that much power because your system barely draws any.
