Old video card was a HD4350 with hdmi. It had it outputting LPCM to my receiver. When I play a movie with either DD or DTS it'll show it properly on my receiver. After installing a HD5770 with the 10.3 drivers the only option I had was 2 channel stereo. I ditched that version and went back to 9.12, which finally gave me the option for 8 channels. But now my receiver is just showing multi ch in on DD, DTS or DTS-MA tracks. Is this correct? I would think if it was a DD track it'll display that on the receiver right? Tried a movie with each different type of track and on all it only displays multi ch in.

I had this exact same problem.

Install the 10.3 again. Then install the Realtek R2.42 audio drivers for ATI video cards. Reboot, and you should now be able to setup your speakers/receiver as multichannel devices and not just stereo. You also have to configure your player software so that it does digital audio passthru, but that is specific to whatever playback software you use (TMT3, Cybervideo, etc...).

OMG I have not been able to get 7.1 audio to my receiver yet and this looks exactly like the information I need to get it working. I can't wait to get home and give this a try. Thanks a million.

It worked for me.

There were newer versions of the drivers out at the time when I installed everything, but it's all working for me.

I haven't decided what software player I want to try yet.

Subtitles didn't work with the default settings and changes suggested by that guide though. I haven't gotten around to figuring out if that's a simple fix or not. (Weekend project time)

Up until I put my HTPC together recently, I had decided to avoid it since it seemed like there were a lot of places where things could go wrong or weren't working quite right. Maybe I wasn't looking hard enough before, but it seems like with the products that are out now it's finally affordable and all working correctly.

Ok, I resolved the issue with Windows just seeing 2 channels max instead of 8. The onboard audio was enabled in the bios but strange how it didn't affect the previous video card. I followed the steps to use ffdshow as the audio decoder but when I watch a movie the ffdshow icon still shows 48000hz/32 bit as the output. The walkthrough says it should show HDMI bitstream when you hover over the icon. Also the AVR now displays only multi ch in but no DTS-HD or TrueHD lights up.

I'm going to try updating the firmware on my receiver because there is a problem with bitstreaming on older firmware versions.

Trying to get bitstreaming working is becoming more of a hassle than its worth. It doesn't help that there's 10 different releases of ffdshow by 5 different people. I still don't know for sure it I got it working but now the audio goes out every few minutes in WMC and in MPC. I'll have to turn off my receiver and back on to get the audio back.

My receiver lights up with Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD following the instructions in the guide.

I have a Denon 2310ci. The old firmware on it does have some bitstreaming issues but it's been corrected with the latest one. I updated the firmware this weekend but still the same issues. The receiver shows MULTI CH IN on everything from 2 ch stereo to DTS-HD. It's not lighting up for DTS-HD or TrueHD though.

Can you email me or link to the exact ffdshow version you have? I tried half a dozen different releases already. Also I'm using x64 so if that's the issue I'll try the 32 bit version of MPC and ffdshow.
