new video card, reformat?

i currently have a geforce 2 mx and i am getting the ati radeon 8500. do i need to reformat? lately video playback on my computer has been slow and i am not thinking that it is my specs. should i reformat anyway?

You shouldn't have to reformat just because you are changing your vid card. Just uninstall the drivers (may want to use a cleaning utility if you have problems) and install the new card.

Whether or not you have other software problems (the playback thing) that a reinstall would help I do not know.

I would just try replacing the video card first. If that doesn't do it, then you haven't lost anything and you can just reinstall. Can't hurt to try it without, it might save you some time.

I would definately recommend a fresh install, just to be sure that all of the old drivers are gone. I'm not one to shy away from a format though, so that may be a bit drastic for your case, especially if you have only one partition or haven't backed up in a while.
