I was in nearly the same boat - but went with a $200 5870. We'll see how long I can squeeze this Kentsfield :D

Not that a Sandy Bridge setup wouldn't be awesome - with a MC in town, I could get a mobo and processor (2400, good for 3.99Ghz) for less than $300. In my case, that would have been silly with 4830 x-fire, however.

Report back how happy you are with your choice!

Also agree to those who say 1.5V ram. Seriously, do yourself a favor. The extra percentage points of performance aren't worth the headaches "ricer ram" brings to the table. IMHO, of course ;)

I currently am waiting on ram to become available at newegg.

Today I just pushed my q6600 to 3.3 it has been prime stable for a few hours now. I am starting to compile a set of bench results for this system prior to completing my 2500k build. I will post a comparison for those who were in the same boat as me.

Q6600 @ 3.3 vs 2500k @ 3.3 with turbo on and off.

We will see the difference clock for clock for the setups.

These are the games I have selected so far:

Arma 2
Arma 2 Operation arrowhead
Bad Company 2
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Stalker COP
Fallout New Vegas

If anyone has any other benches they'd like to see please give me suggestions. I hope to have the results in a couple weeks.

What's the video card? Maybe add a few of the common dx 11 titles like AvP, Dirt 2, or Metro 2033.

GTA4 would be nice.

Also I would recommend you test at settings you would actually play at. What I mean is figure out what settings you would use on your Q6600 for everyday playing. Then use those same settings and see how much of an improvement the 2500k brings. Also clock for clock isn't that important, simply because the 2500K can reach a much higher clock than the Q6600. So in the real world people would be using this higher clock.

I'd appreciate you doing the testing as stated :)

Even *just* Crysis Warhead would be interesting.

My guess is if you play a game on these 2 systems, rarely will you be able to tell the difference.

If you bench both systems, you will then see a difference.

For all those interested I have completed Q6600 benchmarks on the following:

Resident Evil 5
Arma 2 OA
Metro 2033
Stalker Call of Pripyat
Crysis Warhead
X3 Terran Conflict
Uningine
Lost Planet 2

I cannot run AVP benchmark tool since it will not launch without DX11 hardware.

I still have a few other titles that I own to benchmark.

Are there any game benchmark tools that I am missing?
