New video card - old machine

I have recently purchased Nascar 4 - but my current video card can't run it. My system has a 400 mhz processor and is two years old. I want to replace with an AGP card, but am not sure how the 2x/4x bus works?? Is it possible my system only supports 1x? How would I find out, and would that be incompatible with the 2x/4x??

I am looking at an ATI Radeon SDR with 32 meg, or an ATI Expert 2000 with 32 meg. My other option is an eVGA using NVidia GeForce2-MX (32 meg). Given age of my system I want something that will work well - not the 'Best'. I can get the 2000 for about $60 - the other two are at action and I should be able to get at approx. same price. Suggestions?

THanks so much!

As far as the AGP goes, as long as you have an AGP slot you should have no problems. What will happen though, is it will run at the lowest common denominator, ie if your card is AGPx4 and your MB is AGPx1, then you will only be able to run at AGPx1.

Bit of a toughy with the gfx card though. I'd be inclined to say go for either the Radeon or GFmx, they both perform similarly. Avoid the EXPERT2000 at all costs though, it is old tech and just about ready for the bin.

Diddo on AGP and the card choices.

If it were me I would get the Radeon over the MX, but that is just one man's opinion.

Old Machine...I wouldn't spend too much money...Go with the ATI Radeon LE, they are pretty cheap.
Don't know how they perform with slower CPU's though??
