New video card in an older Intel Motherboard

Hello,

My brother-in-law has an antique (built in the year 2000) PC. Before he spends a ton of money on a new PC, he wants to know if he can upgrade the video card, so his son can play some newer PC games. Presently, he has a ATI 8MB (AGP)card in his system. He would like to upgrade to a 128MB card(something like a Nvidia 6200).

I believe most modern day cards now run DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 only. Does anyone know if the 6200(running DDR memory) is compatiable with his PC? I don't know all detailed specifics of what he has in his system. However, what I do know is:

ASUS Intel motherboard
256MB PC100 or PC133
20GB HD
AGP ATI 8MB video card
1GHZ Intel CPU

I can get more detailed information about his system, if needed.

THanks!

Yes, I know it will be CPU limited, but they don't have the money right now to spend on a complete overhaul. The game they want to play right now is Lego Star Wars II. Their computer meets the minimum specs with exception of the video card. The game states that it needs a 128MB video card or greater. However, my concern is a 6200(just as an example) going to run on an older SDRAM motherboard?

As long as the computer has an AGP slot, it doesn't matter. The ram on the video card is the video cards concern, and the ram on the motherboard is the mobo/cpu's concern.

A 6200 is an okay choice; I'm guessing a better choice would be something like a 6600. However, how "new" are the PC games he wants to play? I doubt his PC can handle anything released after 2004, because the CPU is so weak.

the 6200 is a great choice, ther eis one at newegg from 3dfuzions for like $25. that would be plenty for a 1gb p3. you probably should get another 256 mb of ram too
