Boo !

I currently have an Athlon 600 (on K7m) and a G400 max. General performance is great but I always want more... I think you understand ! ;)

Now, should I get the new generation video card from matrox G800 (or Gef 2) or a new CPU ? If I can find a SLOT-A thundrebird I'll go for it, if not, are Athlon 1 GHZ any good ? I mean.... I just can't make the choice.... hehe

Athlon 600 is nice and I think Video Card is more important since you have a nice amount of clock speed.

I have a P2 350 and my gaming performance sky rocketed after I picked up the Voodoo 5 5500 PCI, which isnt even near the best V-Card.

hmm tough choice...

I would go for G800...but, by the time it comes out, that 1GH athlon will prolly cost near to nothing...;)

Since the G800 isn't out yet I don't think we really can say whether your CPU would be limiting or not. I'd get T-Bird first though... they are cheap enough and who knows what kind of unholy price the G800 will command in these days of 500 $US video cards.

Why not have BOTH!!!

Buy your video card & then open up that 600 & get a GFD and overclock that bad boy.

My 600 had a 700 core & now im running it at 800@1.70 volts.

It will even do 900@1.85 & 950@2.05volts,but i like to keep it cooler & run at 800.

There's a good article here on Athlon case removal.

As for Gold Finger Devices there are plenty of place to buy them.

Here's a review of 8 OC Devices

But to reach anything over 750 you'll need to solder your cache to 2/5 and 900+ needs 1/3, here's the resistors you'll need to move LINK

I'm not gonna get into why I don't believe the G800 will be able to compete with 3dfx nextgen, much less NV20, but at this point I would go for a video upgrade first, if you think you can find a slot a tbird later.
