New Video-card for Antec Aria

I'm the happy owner of a heavily modded Antec Aria - blow holes, sidefans, PSU-fan replacement and so on. It's based on a MSI Micro-ATX 939 motherboard, AMD 64-3200 (Clawhammer), 1 GB DDR-SDRAM, Liteon DVD-CD combo, a 160GB 7200 Maxtor disc, an external (USB2) Maxtor 250 GB disc and a Nvidia 6600GT card. The latter is the one I wish to replace, but I'm uncertain if I'm able to draw enough juice from the standard Antec 300W psu for this purpose? Seen people with a similar setup who uses a 7800GT card without problem. What are you guys advice - could I go down this road?

Cheers,
Svend

I just upmodded my Aria with a XFX 7600GS card -- no fan, dual-DVI since I want quiet (brings extra heat though) and the possibility down the road of a second DVI-driven LCD.

Not sure if you're replacing the 6600GT because it's dying, or you want to upgrade. The 7600GS is not a huge improvement over the 6600GT, but it plays most games adequately for me at 1280 or 1024 rez.

Have you got any pictures or guides for this posted on the web? I'm interested in putting a top blowhole (like the new NSK variants of the Aria) and maybe a sidefan in mine.

Please post pics!! My good friend has the Aria with a 6200 in it. He really wants to upgrade, but most cards require more than 300w.

Your external HDD should have its own power supply right? I think a 8600 would be fine for an efficient 300W PSU, though your PSU would produce more heat due to higher stress. Worst case replace PSU with a regular PSU and place it ouside behind the case, then you'll have a cleaner interior for more modding.

Spicy! I like it! Have to see what the mid/low 8 series looks like for power requirements. External PSU could be a great way to keep that case alive. Cabling could be interesting though.

Hi' all. I await the Nvidia 8600 with great expectation, but still I have not found a solution to my PSU-problem - if there is a such? Mooncancook you write that I would be ok with the 300W, but when I try to enter my setup into one of the online voltage calculator I get out with a demand for more than 300W. Still, I'm eager to know if anyone has solved this with an external PSU, a modded one or maybe there's a MicroATX-PSU that will fit?

Cheers,
Gool
