New Video card for 2007WFP?

Getting this monitor delivered today, and I'm currently running a 9800 pro (yeah, yeah, I know).

So, my question is, will the 9800 support the oddball resolution of the 2007WFP, and if not, any suggestions for a replacement?

Thanks!

It will be able to run that resolution, but for newer games it'll be painfully impossible to run it natively. You'll (apparently) want an x1900xt or equivalent card to run new games well, but for normal use it will be fine.

Its more a matter of drivers supporting it since thats a new enough card. Make sure to update your drivers.

And yeah, unfortunately, it won't cut it much for gaming at that resolution, but should be fine otherwise.

Thanks...

Mostly I was wondering if I should bother trying to hook it up until I get a new card. The biggest workout it will get is WoW and DVD playback.

And while the x1900xt is tempting, I'm still on an AGP motherboard until the tax return comes in. :p

I would want to use it as soon as possible. Actually, WoW shouldn't be too bad playing on it. Won't be really great or anything, but not as bad as most games. Shouldn't be any issue at all with DVD playback.

So, yeah, I'd say use it right away. You'll get a large enough upgrade it sounds like later, so that it'll still be like getting an all new monitor when you play games at that res with the settings turned up.

Thanks all.

Hooked it up last night, and after updating the drivers, it works like a charm. And it's very, very nice. Now if only I could get one at work.

2 weeks ago I bought a 2005FPW. At the time, I thought I'd probably have to upgrade my 6600GT to run games at or near native res. Figured a 7600GT would fit nicely for what I'd want to spend.

Anyway, it came in and I replaced my 17" Dell analog LCD - beautifully bright screen with no anomalies that I can see. Then I loaded the only games I currently have that would stress the video card - Call of Duty 2 and FarCry (I also have Riddeck but not installed on my desktop). FWIW I run a Dell 4700 with 3.0ghz P4 and 1.5gigs of DDR2.

SURPRISE! With details toned down on FarCry, all setting on HIGH, and at 1680x1050 that little 6600GT runs pretty well - good enough for me but not for those critical of FPS. Next up COD2 at 1440x900 with textures at "normal" and smoke "world only" - fired up the D-Day level and it also runs very well. I feel I could bump the res up at 1680x1050. It's not as pretty with textures on "extra" like I run on my m170, but overall still looks nice. Did not have to drop to DX7.

So I think I may just wait till the next gen mid-range cards come out later this year. The 9800 runs as fast or maybe a little slower than the 6600GT, but I say take a shot at it. Just remember the details will have to be lowered.

My $.02
