I just got my new 7970 in, I had a 5850. I did do a fresh O/S and driver install with the 5850 card.
Do I really need to uninstall all the drivers and reinstall them again?
I went from a 4870x2 to my 7970 and all I did was uninstall drivers, power down and replace card, power back up and install the 12.2 drivers. no safe mode involved.
I don't bother with safe mode and the reg/driver wiping. A full driver uninstall into generic vga drivers before swapping cards is all that is needed nowadays. It used to be very bad and there were specialized driver sweeper/cleaner SW but I think its a thing of the past with current cards.
