I just got a radeon x700 pro and b4 I installed it my computer was completly silent, but now with the x700 installed the fan noise is pretty loud...is it suppose to be like this and was I just use to my pc being too silent or something ? would the 6600gt be more silent ? and is there a way to reduce the noise.

if you download rivatuner (guru3d.com - downloads section somewhere) you can set the fan speed to stay at whatever % of its total you'd like during idle and load

under main, driver settings, click the tab next to customize, then click the graphic card icon

new window called System Tweaks opens up, choose FAN

there you can set the fan speed %, check the (apply settings at windows startup) so you don't have to do it everytime

be smart about it, at idle you could survive with 15% or whatever is quiet enough, but at 3d load the game will have sound so you won't hear it as much but turn the fan up to 70% or if that turns otu to be too loud turn it down a notch but you don't want the card to overheat

holy crap you were right this really does work lol , i got some questions, first of all the lowest i can go is 25% ...do i have to change the settings to default b4 i play a game ? i dont mind the fan being on full speed while playing a game....when i play a game will it automaticly start the fan at the rate it needs or do i have to manually put the settings on default so it does that ?

I dont even need to put it at 25 percent , at 40 it dosent bother me, but i still have that question if i play a game will it stay at 40% and fry my video card ?

yea lowest is 25% my bad, so at idle run 25% but when under load 3d (playing a game) set it to as high as you are comfortable with. It will automatically increase the fan speed when you play a game, turn off the speakers and start up a game and listen for the gpu fan to speed up if you want to make sure, also rivatuner has a monitoring software that can watch your fan speed so if you want to reference that after your game you can, you can start it up under the target adapter (main) by clicking the button next to customize and clicking the magnifying glass over film

you should have multiple settings, 2d idle, 3d low power, and 3d performance, 2d idle should be 40%, 3d low power can be 50%, and 3d performance can be 70 + %, if 100% doesn't bother you, those settings will automatically kick in when you play a game, if you set it right it should not stay at 40% when you start a game, but jump to the higher setting you chose 70-100

you are clicking the first customize tab, i need you to click the second customize tab, and uncheck the enable low level fan control

o its only availble on nvidia based cards, well try the auto setting on that and see how it fairs under idle and load conditions (noise wise)

if it doesn't work out with auto perhaps set it at 50% and check the temperatures of the card during a 3d game run to see how they faired, if they are low enough perhaps you can turn the fan % speed down a bit more

auto settings dosent change anything when pc isnt running a game, its still just as loud........i launched call of duty and on regular settings the fan sometimes is really loud but this time i could barely hear it , it seemed like it stayed at 40 % , so i exited the game really fast and put the fan back on default.....I dont know what im gonna do , i dont like the noise when im surfing the net , but at the same time i dont want my video card to fry
