My new monitor (HP W2408H/24 inch) will be arriving either tomorrow or monday. Because I will be playing at 1920x1200 with that monitor, I am not sure if I "need" to upgrade and if so, to which card.

My current graphics card is a 8800GT (512MB) from Asus.

My budget is ?400,00 (Enough for an 8800 Ultra, but I don't think that is worth it?).

I was thinking of:
~8800GTX
~8800GTS 512MB
~9800GTX when it is released (higher overclock potentional, I never did any vmods on a card so)
~If neccesairly: 8800 Ultra
~or ofcourse, keep my 8800GT.

Any suggestions?

well looking at the performance reviews from tweaktown I would say either go with the 8800gtx or if you want a newer card then go with the 9800gtx.

The 8800gtx has a lower clock but improved memory bandwidth so it handles higher resolutions and aa/af better than the 9800gtx.

However on the opposite end if you look at the tests the 9800gtx is usually only a few frames behind the 9800gx2 but the gx2 is also limited by the memory bandwidth.

Since they dont have a 8800gtx v 9800gtx review its really your call but i would say go with either one of those two cards cuz the ultra is still overpriced imo.

ps you can also overclock both of the cards two increase performance. Either one would be good for you.

I too have a 24" monitor playing at 1920x1200 and I am pretty sure the 8800gt should be fine for your monitor. I just got a 8800gtx and I can play every game that I own full rez with aa turned on atleast and it runs perfectly fine. Well except for Crysis but if your trying to play that at 1920 you might as well wait till next year. From the reviews I've seen the 8800gt is just about the same as mine and should perform well. I wouldn't upgrade if I were you, should be fine where your at. I had a 2900xt before this card and it was almost a waste to upgrade to the 8800gtx but I just got a sick deal on it so I had to.

there is no such card that is worth the money to upgrade from an 8800gt. Period. Just tough it out with slightly lower settings at 1920x1200 (basically, turning off AA on any game other than Crysis, where you actually need to really drop settings) until better cards actually come around.
