New version of the Antec SLK3700

It's called SLK3700 BQE.

I have the Sonata, but if I were buying today I think I would buy this one instead, and then put a (Fortron perhaps?) PSU with a 120mm fan into it and sell the Smartpower.

Link to the frontpage at SilentPC Review, where I spotted it.
Link to the Antec 3700 page.

Edit: It's actually old news, but seeing as I have not seen any mentioning of it in here, I hope you don't yell repost.

Looks alright... How much do they run for?

seems to be about the same price as the sonata, or maybe a few bucks less...

seems to me if you're buying it because it has features similar to the sonata, you'd just go ahead and buy the sonata, as I found one site selling this one for $109, and the sonata for $110

To me, it looks like Antec made a mistake with this one!

If they are using the HD setup from the Sonata, as it looks from the pics, there's no room for a real front intake fan again! Yeah, you can add one on the back side of the drive cage, but it's not going to draw nearly as much air into the case as the old setup, which was excellent! (If it ain't broke, don't fix it!)

I do like the black color! If they had this for sale a couple of months ago, it would have been a tossup with my Compucase LX-6A19, which I bought becasue of the cooling and color over the SLK-3700.

But, this appears to be aimed at the "silent" market, not "OCers from hell"!

Interesting. Thanks for the post JZilla. I'm not sure why Antec made this BQE case. They painted the SLK3700 black and turned the HD bay sideways like the Sonata. Big deal. Why try to make the SLK3700 into a Sonata? The review said that Antec would correct the biggest problem, reducing the fan grill restriction, but the fan grills don't look any different... Dunno what they're thinking.

I had not checked the prices, I assumed the price would be the same as the current SLK3700 (which means lower than the Sonata). But at the same price as the Sonata you might as well go with the Sonata. Strange really. Maybe prices will drop in a couple of weeks.

Fan grilles on the rear are like Sonata's.

Front 120mm fan is behind the bezel (you'll have to remove the bezel to install the fan).

Price should be about $99.00 before shipping (at least that's what we'll charge on our site, when it's back in stock). Compared to Sonata's $129.00.

Get the 3700AMB.. way cool hard drive cooling/mounting on that one. Glad I did, $64 shipped from some places with the Antec 350w PSU. That is pretty wierd that they would mess up such a good hard drive bay design. It was perfect..

Heh, I was just going to link to a SilentPC Forum thread where the AntecCSR answers the price question, and he here is. 🙂

Note to Antec: How about making a deluxe edition of the Sonata. One that is VERY QUIET as stock without modding. Something with a 120mm fan psu, and perhaps some of those dampning mats. And with a proper place to mount a front fan for the people who would like to have that.

Going by this picture on the Antec SLK3700BQE page, the fan grills are standard SLK3700AMB grills which are pretty restrictive. Maybe this picture is from any early production sample or something. Here's a picture of the Sonata's grill and you can see how much less restrictive it is.

Either way, it's gotta go.

The Antec rep on the other forum (see link above) said the rear grill is like the Sonata; they're working on getting the right picture up.

Noticed that one of the Antec SLK3700's was chosen for the case used in their Lean Machine 2003 ($1,000 budget) article for the current issue of Maximum PC (Dream Machine 2003 issue).
