New version of Napster is available! Beta8

Still using Beta 5. Happy with it. No bugs. No reason for me to change. You guys have fun with it. 🙂

andrey,
Have you installed it yet? I downloaded it but havn't installed yet. Wondering if it's worth the update? Kind of odd that they would release another version since the judges havn't ruled yet. Is this the Bertelsmann version?

I've installed it, but don't see any major differences, except when uninstalling it, it has an option to uninstall user information from registry. Another things they've added is new user agreement, an Exclude Option in Search and Rename option in My Files (formely Library).

I downloaded it but, like ibbilbo I haven't installed it yet. Does anyone else have experience with it yet?

"If it aint broken, dont fix it!" right? LOL... are you still on a modem? Updating to the most recent software/driver is never a bad thing.

You've never seen Media Player 7 or IE 5.5 then 🙂

LXi, updating to new software/drivers can be a bad thing. as Lore said, you must have never seen MP 7 or IE 5.5

in this case, it is virtually the same thing. if you want to update to beta 8 go right ahead, and if you dont want to update, well you wont be missing anything.

Come on, tell me you guys are brave souls, Im just installed beta8 and its running just fine. I havent seen MediaPlayer7 and IE5.5? Oh yes I have, running brilliantly over 6 months.

I believe this is the version that will log your access and one day who knows U will get a bill for the NEW PAY FOR USE NAPSTER..hahaha just kidding
Merry Xmas

Amen to that! I don't have my B5 install file anymore, anyone know where i can get it?

LXi:

I've been using Beta 8 since it first came out, which was 2 days before Andrey posted (IIRC).

I'm just referring to MP7 and IE 5.5 - both which are memory hogs and filled with useless candy. I never use visualization plugins anyway - so there's no reason for me to download MP7 to play my MP3s or other streams. I'll stick with MP 6.4 and IE 5.01 SP1.

edit: Make that eye candy. If it were filled with regular candy I'd be all over it!

Neoplasia,

Check your Inbox. 🙂

LXi,

I am using IE 5 5.50.4522.1800. I just happen to be very satisfied with the performance of Beta 5, downloading songs at a clippy 5.8kB/s on my winmodem. My neighbour uses Beta 7 and I have used it for him a few times and I don't like the looks of it. Just call me fussy. 😉

Lore:

LOL... candy is good. Eye candy is also good IMO, though not a necessity. IE5.5 didnt hog anymore than 5.0, plus it(and WMP7.0 too) came with WinME so I didnt have a choice. I tell you though, WMP7.0 impressed me quite a bit, it does eat resource for lunch, but it produced some veyr fine sounding MP3 and CD music, and oh yea, my VCDs never looked better.

dennilfloss:

One of the most convinient features Beta7/8 provides is direct messaging. With Beta7/8, when you find a song you desperately need, you can persuade the person to stay online until you finish downloading, or convince him to let you access his files. This is one of the essentials I thought beta5 is missing.

Whenever I had beta 7, 90% of the time Napster would lock up my comp before it even connected to a server. I thought beta 8 would fix this, but it didn't.

For all your guys' references, Nappytools has all of the Napster versions from 2.0 upwards.

I've installed Beta 8, no difference from 7, 6, 5, etc.. although I've never had problems with the older versions, I just like to have the latest 🙂
