well the new version isn't all that different than the previous one.

But, I've found it pretty effective in removing malware from compromised systems when i've had to deal with them. it doesn't run in the background, so you can use it whenever. I think the paid version does have that option if you like that.

Basically engine improvements.

http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=68972
  • Dramatically improved scan speed: up to 3-5 times faster on many machines.
  • Dramatically improved stability of both the scanner and Protection Module (Free and PRO versions, respectively).
  • More responsive: program loads up to 3 times faster, and protection module has lower impact on system resources (PRO version only).
  • New internal detection algorithms enable detection of more real-world malware.

  • You can now add files and folders to the ignore list manually.
  • Ability to schedule and unschedule scans and updates from the command line (PRO version only).
  • Notifications of blocked malicious websites now include additional details such as type, port, and process on Windows Vista and higher.
  • Dramatically improved flash scan (PRO version only) -- determine whether a more in-depth scan is needed, in less than 10 seconds on many machines.
  • One-touch easy-to-use option to keep protection up-to-date automatically (PRO version only).
  • "Warn if database is outdated by:" option now warns if the database is far out-of-date (7 days by default), including for protection (PRO version only).

I just bought MBAM recently and I think it was worth it. It does run in the background providing real time protection. It definitely does a good job, it blocks malicious websites just browsing forums like this one, not this one in particular.

I have been a long time fan of the freeware version of Mban. Perhaps the best available passive after the fact infection scanner on the planet. And mban freeware just keeps getting better and better.

And at this point in time, Mban is the only purely passive scanner left in my security system times two computers. Sadly I do not have the infinite bandwidth to cope with mban daily 5 mb plus updates times two daily updates that are largely redundant.

If my wife and I did those mban updates every day, we would well be well above our 5
GB monthly cap at rip of rates,

Oh well, I sucked in, I upgraded to the new mban version, have yet to reboot to make it effective, and as new job next, I have to get my wife off her computer so I can upgrade her computer to the new better version of mban.

NBut at no point in time do I get so delusional as to think that a freeloader like me can have a legitimate argument that Mban updates are largely redundant without paying.
