New version of Dell Soundbar for their LCD monitors

I was looking to get another Dell soundbar for my 1905FP and discovered that they have a newer version of the soundbar. The old model was AS500, and the newer model is now called AS501 and sells for $29.

Dell AS501 Soundbar for UltraSharp LCD's

It is a little sleeker looking than the old one, but it looks like there might not be a volume control like the old one did. Anyone have any experience with it? I tried googling and searching various forums but couldn't find much more information about it.

I have the old one as well. But I got another LCD, so I was looking for a second soundbar for my second LCD. The LCD's are mounted in a mobile pole/workstation so the fact that it can just attach on the bottom surface of the LCD is great.

Yes, the sound was initially tinny and flat because, like you said, it doesn't have much bass, but after some burn-in, the sound is not too bad. For watching TV/movies in my bedroom, it is good enough.

The old one has a volume control in the front which is pretty convenient. The new one doesn't look like it has such volume control.

Anyone know if the older version (AS500) will fit on a Dell 1905FP?

Also, were there any problems with the AS500 or did they just update the cosmetics?

I've setup one at work and can confirm it DOES have a volume knob on the right side.

The older version will work with 1905FP.

I've ordered the new one. It does have a volume knob on the side that can't be seen on the pictures. It actually looks a bit nicer than the old one (I have both the old and the new version).

Haven't hooked it up yet, so I can't comment on the sound.

Hi guys:

I just bought a new Dell AS500 Sound Bar off of eBay.

I take it the speaker itself has a cable that plugs directly into the LCD monitor permanently attached?

What about the audio cable? same thing?

take a look at the diagram. it will answer your question.

i'd much rather have a seperate speaker system for my machine, but that's just my oppinion. i think this soundbar is great choice for anyone who needs a cheap and sleek sound solution.

Did you have any trouble connecting the AS501 to your 1905fp monitor. I was reading on the spefication pages and it only mentioned that it was compatible with low entry Dell lcds.
Also, how does the sound compare to the AS500?

Thanks
