New/used car with some "get up and go" under $28k

A friend of mine is looking for a 2nd car to go with his truck.

Copied from my reply below

He hasn't given many details just the occasional yes or no, so I'll give you what I think he wants(I've known him since '93):

Keep in mind he is an African American male, age 28 with 22" wheels on his blacked out Ford Expedition.

The first car he looked at getting was a 370z but he just couldn't fit it in the budget. The G35 coupe is in the running.

- $28k is the cap, that's with destination/trasnportation fees, tag, title, and tax.

- If he gets a car on the low end he plans to mod it, wheels/tires, suspension, possibly engine. Upper end cars would remain stock.

- If used car must be 2004 or newer and under 40k miles. The 350z we had found was $18k for a low mile '05.

- Will only buy from dealers and would prefer a dealer within 100 miles of Atlanta, GA.

- Prefers a coupe but will drive a sedan, again must be an automatic trans. No convertibles.

- Car will live outside w/o cover(that means baking in the GA sun) but in a nice family neighborhood. No black, red, or silver. Prefers blue.

- Will not buy a Pontiac. He wants something with "street presence" as another of my friends put it. Around here that means something sporty like Z/G, Retro, or "high dollar" Audi/Merc/BMW.

Suggestions I have given so far are a used 350z, VW r32, c5 vette on the lower/mid end and a used c55/s4(high maintenance costs?) or new v6 Camaro on the upper end.

What other cars should I toss in the mix?

We had found a great deal on a low mile Z but unfortunately he was slow to act and someone else nabbed it.

WIth that budget there are tons and tons of cars to buy. I bet a fully loaded 350z could be had quite new. Or squeeze into a newer 370.

Or a NEW V8 Camaro, although not with much in it.

G8 GT (both new and used can fit into his price range). Does he want a 2 door only??
It's a 4 dr, huge interior and can be quite zippy.
2 dr: 350z, GTO, older vette

I see a lot of 370z around here and they look sinister.

Usually if your gonna step up to a V8 it's gonna include the majority of the goodies, when I bought my Chevy they had the LS, LT, or LTZ packages, the bigger motor came w/the LT or LTZ along with all the toys. They might have changed how they offer options though, this was 3 years ago.

GTOs are easily had in that range. And they got get up and go like you wouldn't believe. If you keep an eye out you could probably find a G8 V8 w/ the right incentives.

this is like saying "pick who you want my friend to sleep with" and then the only qualifications being: under 25, and white...

honestly, we need to know if he likes brunettes, blondes, redheads, men, women, anal, vaginal, etc... you need to give us more information

How about a 1993 Dodge Viper.

Honestly that sounds like something he would do.

i dont care if he doesnt want a pontiac... all you need to do is show him a decent picture of the G8 GT, which i bet you can get for a good deal, is he doing cash or finance? if finance i believe there is 0% for 72 and that is a HUGE savings... if you run an amortization and compare to regular rebates vs financing, and he can invest that money at 1% thats a positive... the G8 GT has available 20" wheels, comes standard with a decent amount of exterior chrome, and well... it can look like this...

He will have to look, and possibly travel a bit to get one, but IMHO if he wants a classy and still powerful car with a lot of presence, it's worth looking at the 545i w/Sport package or 550i.

Should be able to find one with ~40k miles within the price range, 4.8L V8 360HP/360TQ, pretty well loaded w/NAV, premium audio, moonroof, power everything, leather, etc.

why dont you ask him to make an account at a real car forum to ask for more opinions than the few (10-20) users who view this sub-forum.

wait or does he now know how to use a computer/hasn't stolen one yet? dont shoot me

because i guarantee if he goes to a site like http://forums.thecarlounge.com/ i bet he will get a LOT of G8 GT suggestions...

V6 Camaro. That car has street presence like you would not believe. It looks sophisticated yet wild at the same time. Neighbor has a black one, and I drool over it on a daily basis.

Possibly. Though if they sell decently, there will be a bazillion of them on the roads in no time.
